Because They Don’t Know Yet
Jonah 1:1-5
It’s Not Fair!
I.Key Idea
The book of Jonah can be summarized by the words?A “the love of God”. The story tells us of God who does not judge the sinners according to their deeds but saves them. We?A however?A too often do not thank Him for the salvation but complain about small troubles we face?A do we?
Today’s story says that Jonah did not obey God’s words but fled. God visited the fleer Jonah with a great storm. The problem was that the other people in that ship also were troubled by the storm. Why did the sailors have to be troubled by the storm together with Jonah? The sailors prayed in their fear?A “… do not charge us with innocent blood; …” (v.14) That means “It is deplorable that we faced this storm. It is natural that Jonah faced the storm since he is its cause?A but why do we have to be troubled by it with him?” Was their complaint fair? By no means.
If God punished us according to the wrongs we do?A who could say that it is natural that we have the blessings we now enjoy? If He punished the wrong thoughts we have?A the sins of our eyes?A the sins of our lips or hands?A etc. accordingly?A who can enjoy the blessings as natural results?
We should not be a people who think that blessings are natural but complain about any trouble we face.
Ⅱ.Small Group Discussions
1. There can be God’s works that seem impossible for us to understand. When we face that kind of events?A understanding will be given to us if we focus God?A not our own thoughts. If you have any experience of this kind?A please share it.
2. “Love the Lord.” This command looks simple?A but do you really have an experience that you obeyed this command?
