Because They Don’t Know Yet
Vocation of the Church and People of Faith
Matthew 16:13-20
I.Key Idea
There are two ways to believe in something. First way is to believe based on objective information?A facts?A and results from experiments. Second way is to assume that something is true and believe in it first then find the truth based on the belief over time. It is nothing but an irony that scientific facts are also found based on the latter?A discovering the hidden truth of the nature by making hypothesis first. Also?A there are two ways to accept a fact. First is to simply accept the objective fact as is. Second is to take the truth as your subjective view. In other words?A your character and life will be dictated by the truth. The confession by Peter in todays scripture falls on the latter aspect. Peter believed that Jesus is the truth first and gave his character and life to believe in Him. Church began with this confession. If we say that church is a gathering of people who have been called by God?A we can say that each of us is church itself. The building is not the church but people who confess that Jesus is the Lord. Therefore?A as we accept Jesus?A we also make the confession that Peter made. Church may seem weakened time to time and went through many persecutions?A and yet continued to exert its power in the history because it was build on the truth as its foundation. Church continued its walk with Jesus. Our painting may seem incomplete now?A but it will be completed in the near future. On that day?A we will see Jesus Christ our Lord face to face. We will run our race in order to fulfill our vocation based on firm faith in Jesus.
