Because They Don’t Know Yet
The Law and the Gospel
Romans 8:1-2
I. Key Idea
God did not give the law to the people of Israel so that they would be saved through it. He gave them the law so that they could know their sins and confess that they were sinners. The law was given not for them to find salvation and hope but for them to know their totally desperate situation. At the same time?A in the law are written the will of God. In other words?A the law was given so that they would understand the will and heart of God and draw near to Him. They had to accept God’s way of solving the basic problem of sin in the human nature?A just as it was. However?A the people of Israel could not understand God’s intention of the giving of the law?A but they tried to fulfill the law by their own strength. In the center of the law of God is the sacrificial system. The people was to understand that the sacrificed animals were bleeding and dying for their sins when they saw them dying. The sacrificed animals represented Jesus Christ?A who on the Cross was to bear the sins of the mankind?A bleed and die. This blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ?A the blood of the Cross?A is the only way to solve the sins of the mankind. We cannot attain salvation by keeping the law. We cannot attain salvation by living a moral life or by changing our habits. The only way to take away the sins in us is the blood of Jesus Christ. Trusting in the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ?A not in the law?A is the only way to solve our sins. This is the gospel.
