Because They Don’t Know Yet
The Repentance that Leads to Salvation
Nahum 1:7
I.Key Idea
The book of Nahum declares God’s judgment upon Nineveh?A the capital of Assyria. When the prophet Jonah declared the destruction of Nineveh in about B.C. 760?A the king and the people of this city repented?A wearing sackcloth and fasting. Even the domestic animals fasted. However?A this situation did not last long. Repentance that is not based on God’s word does not last long. In fact?A in about B.C. 612 (about 150 years after Jonah’s declaration)?A the prophet Nahum declared the complete destruction of Nineveh. They had chances for repentance but it had become too late. If you do not repent from sin?A you cannot have a solution?A however long the time passes. The heaviness of sin that is piled up leads us to a place where you cannot have restoration. In the end?A you will not be able to repent even if want to do so. Then you give up because you think it is too late to repent. We have something to do before it becomes too late for us to repent.
We have to fight against sin even if it takes breeding.
We have to bear fruit in keeping with repentance.
We have to deny our sinful and fallen self and follow Jesus Christ?A taking up our own cross.
We have to train ourselves to enter through a narrow gate?A knowing that it is difficult for the rich to enter into the heaven.
Our way of life and our character have to become like those of Jesus Christ.
Now is the time to forgive one another.
We have to try our best not to commit the same sin again?A as Jesus told the woman who committed adultery to do so.
Our ministry and offering cannot substitute for repentance.
We have to stop immediately the action that blocks the Holy Spirit.
Pride and life that are apart from Jesus is committing a sin of glorifying ourselves.
We have to understand that we are impotent without the power and help of the Holy Spirit.
We have to recognize well that the second coming of the Lord is very near.
II. Small Group Discussions
1. What is the meaning of bearing fruit in keeping with repentance? Let us examine our own life.
2. Where in my life does Jesus Christ take His place? How are our inner motive and attitude toward what the Lord has commanded us to do?
